As series production had to continue in parallel with the renovation, a solution was needed to protect production from construction site dirt.</li><li>The model: b55 3x4 above ground / with ramps</li><li>The result: For the first four weeks, the amount of dirt collected was weighed every week. The frequency of emptying was then adjusted so that an evaluation was carried out after 7 and 12 weeks. In total, the cleaning field collected 6.7 kilograms of dirt over the 12 weeks. Both analyses resulted in 7.2 kg of dirt remaining in the system. <h2>The initial situation</h2><p>As a manufacturer of power electronics, e.g. chips for automotive, industrial and consumer electronics, Infineon Technologies in Villach, Austria, has <strong>very high standards</strong> when it comes to hygiene and cleanliness. Even the smallest particles can render a chip unusable.<br>This is why the sensitive products are manufactured in clean rooms. As few particles as possible should be present in these areas. For this reason, employees at Infineon change their footwear before entering the highly sensitive areas. In special changing areas, the "normal" work shoes are exchanged for cleanroom shoes.<br>&nbsp;</p><p><strong>Cleanroom shoes </strong>have special properties such as low static charge and high slip resistance. They are also easier to clean and disinfect than other shoes.<br>At Infineon, employees work in three shifts, which means that cleanroom shoes are constantly in use and need to be thoroughly cleaned so that they can be used again in the cleanroom the following day. This cleaning is carried out by a service employee, who cleans the shoes individually and prepares them for reuse.</p>

<h2>The challenge</h2><p>An enquiry was therefore sent to HEUTE. The requirement was for a <strong>cleaning machine for the soles of the cleanroom shoes</strong>. It needed to be <strong>mobile</strong>, as there are three access points to cleanrooms in the company. It also had to be <strong>as self-sufficient as possible</strong>, as there are no additional connections (e.g. water or compressed air) in the changing areas. Of course, the cleaning function should still be excellent in order to remove even the smallest particles and adhesions and thus ensure the<strong> product safety</strong> of the chips produced. The machine should also clean and bind dust in the sole profiles and heel areas that cannot be removed with standard adhesive mats.</p>

<h2>The solution</h2><p>The customised solution from HEUTE Maschinenfabrik is a mobile <strong>sole washer with an integrated dryer.</strong> Despite its many functions, the machine is<strong> compact</strong> and can be moved on castors. This container is filled at the start of the shift so that no additional liquid needs to be added at the place of use. The principle works like a bird bath. The cleaning solution collects in a basin. The size of the basin is calculated precisely so that if liquid is lost, exactly the right amount is added from the reservoir. The basin contains a brush that can be activated using a foot pedal. This is operated by a motor inside the machine. <strong>Compressed air</strong> is expelled from a narrow opening at the front of the machine via a hose. The employee can now pull the shoe that has just been cleaned over the opening and the compressed air ensures quick and effective drying. The blown-off liquid is fed back into the water basin via the enclosure. <p>At Bitburger Brauerei, our clever cleaning system ensures that dirt from lorry and forklift truck tyres is caught as soon as they enter the loading bay. The tyres are cleaned as they pass by cleaning mats permanently installed in the floor. The positive effects are clear to see: In addition to increased cleanliness in logistics, water ingress from outside into the hall has been minimised.</p><p><br>Preventing contamination is a difficult task in all food and beverage production plants. Companies in the brewing industry, such as Bitburger, intercept dirt before it can even enter the production buildings. They are successively equipping their access airlocks with ProfilGate®. The system cleans the treads of tyres, rollers and wheels. Up to 80 per cent of the dirt particles adhering to them remain in the entrance area. Its effectiveness has been scientifically analysed and confirmed by the Fraunhofer IPA Institute.</p>

<h2>CAREFULLY COORDINATED DESIGN DETAILS FOR THE BEST CLEANING EFFECT</h2><p>The way it works is simple: the stainless steel trays with a maximum depth of 65 millimetres are installed at ground level. These trays contain gratings fitted with brush strips. When a vehicle or an employee crosses the cleaning field, the brushes move mechanically and without any electricity. This is due to the special design of the patented brush strips: they are pre-tensioned so that the bristles protrude a few millimetres above the grating. When loaded by wheels, rollers or soles, vibrations occur. This movement ensures that the dirt is brushed off and falls into the stainless steel tray. Another special feature is the bristles. It is angled so that the walking surfaces are reached as well as possible. The bristles are also of different lengths so that they can penetrate deep into the profiles. A comparison with a toothbrush for profiles comes to mind. But not only the bristles are well thought out, the shape of the brush body is also functional. The roof shape ensures that dirt particles can simply fall downwards. The brush bodies themselves are made of soft and hard PVC and ensure even tension even when temperatures fluctuate greatly.</p>

<h2>THE INNOVATIVE CLEANING SYSTEM IN ACTION</h2><p>Sustainability is part of the family company's philosophy. It is therefore a perfect fit that the ProfilGate® cleaning system works in a resource-saving manner - completely without electricity. The decision to use the "brush carpet" was made not only for reasons of sustainability, but also for process reliability. The cleaning system has been in use in front of the main gate of the loading hall at Bitburger since 2018 and cleans the tyres of the lorries and forklifts as they drive over them. "Our loading hall is 9600 square metres in size. From here, we load around 180 lorries to destinations all over Europe every day. We had two challenges in the logistics hall: firstly, the fine dust pollution from the lorries and forklift traffic was quite high and secondly, water was being carried inside from the outside via the tyres of the vehicles. The use of a modern ventilation system in conjunction with air purification devices and the switch to large electric forklift trucks made it possible to achieve considerable improvements here. By installing the tyre cleaning system, a way was found to significantly reduce the amount of dirt entering the hall."</p>

<h2>A CUSTOMISED SOLUTION TO GET STARTED</h2><p>The Bitburger brewery became aware of the ProfilGate® cleaning system through a report in the trade press. After a detailed on-site consultation, the decision was made to install a 7.8 m x 3.5 m field. Even the first cleaning zone was customised to the company's requirements: Eight trays were installed, each with a drain to allow the water carried in by the vehicles to run off. By installing the cleaning system, Bitburger can significantly reduce the amount of water carried in and, on top of that, the tyre abrasion from the vehicles is brushed off and collected in the recessed trays. This in turn leads to a further reduction in fine dust. By installing the innovative cleaning system, Bitburger can master two logistical challenges at once - without interrupting logistics operations.</p>

<h2>CLEANING SYSTEMS ALSO FOR WET CLEANING AND DISINFECTION</h2><p>The manufacturer of ProfilGate®, Maschinenfabrik HEUTE, is facing up to the constantly growing demands for cleanliness and is continuously developing the cleaning system. In addition to dry cleaning, HEUTE GmbH is expanding its solutions for wet cleaning and disinfection of tyres, rollers and soles. These models can be filled with water or disinfectant solution. As with the dry versions, there are different fine-mesh gratings and different tub heights. The fill level in the trays is regulated via an overflow nozzle and emptying takes place via an external drain. When driving over and walking over the brush strips are submerged - as in the dry version - and the cleaning fluid reaches the running surfaces of the rollers and soles via the capillary effect. The disinfectant is also fed in: a simple connection option via a medium feed ensures that the liquid enters the tray evenly and can take effect. The microbiological effectiveness of the Aqua series has been tested and confirmed by the Ibelin laboratory in collaboration with the University of Bonn.&nbsp;<br>Numerous companies in the food and beverage industry have already found Profilgate® to be a suitable component for their hygiene concept in order to achieve BRC or IFS certification. <p><i>Logistics manager Lorenzo Barbieri knows that a warehouse without millimetre-thick dust deposits is more than just a cosmetic bonus. That's why he was looking for the right solution. He found it in ProfilGate.</i></p><p>"In the biomedical sector, the aesthetic aspect is very important," says Lorenzo Barbieri. "And anyone who visits our warehouse today will see cleanliness and containers that are not full of dust. We have been able to significantly improve our standards in terms of presentation and appearance."&nbsp;</p><p><br>The head of the logistics department at the Medica Group in Italy is satisfied with his new ProfilGate cleaning area. "We can't quantify the costs and effort saved, but the benefits of ProfilGate are clear. For example, warehouse employees no longer need to systematically dust boxes before they are dispatched," says logistics specialist Barbieri.</p><p><br>Barbieri and the dust in the halls of the Mirandola plant have a history. The plant is a central handling centre for the entire Medica Group with seven subsidiaries. But we were treating the symptoms, not the actual cause," explains the logistics expert. "It wasn't actually necessary to remove the dust that was buzzing around the warehouses. Instead, we should try to prevent it from entering in the first place." With this new realisation, Barbieri set out in search of equipment that could do the job. He searched the internet a lot and saw many offers. But: "They didn't convince me. They didn't seem determined enough."</p>

<p>Barbieri found what he was looking for at the Italian ProfilGate authorised dealer Collini Sistemi. He watched videos about the cleaning field from Solingen, read articles and then contacted Collini. He then analysed the application to answer the question: Can ProfilGate solve the dust problem at the Medica Group? His line manager was also quickly convinced and authorised the purchase of ProfilGate after a few days.</p><p><br>Barbieri was convinced by the effectiveness of ProfilGate. The cleaning field embedded in the floor consists of a stainless steel tray, a steel grating and brush strips. The system works purely mechanically, requires no electricity and no manual operation, which takes time. The soles of shoes, tyres and rollers that enter the grate are scrubbed dry right down to the tread. Profil not only removes dust, but also coarser dirt such as shavings, stones and sand. The dirt removed from the soles and tyres then ends up in the tray, where it can be easily removed with a hand brush or vacuum cleaner.&nbsp;</p><p><br>After the purchase, the only thing missing was the professional installation of the cleaning field. To do this, the tray is sunk into the floor so that it is flush with the ground. "The job itself was not complex, but we couldn't find any installers with previous experience," Barbieri reports on the initial challenges. However, he praises the commitment of his dealer: "With the support and advice of Collini Sistemi, all the problems that the craftsmen encountered during the course of the job were resolved. The construction of the warehouse also made it possible to divert traffic during the installation work at the entrance and exit via the "back door". Today, Barbieri is very satisfied with ProfilGate in his logistics: "We have significantly reduced the dirt in our warehouse. It was dirt that subsequently turned into dust on the goods for our customers."</p>

<h2>Industry &nbsp;4.0 relies on automation. We are going with it.</h2><p>The use of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) requires safe operation. This is because any malfunctions in the system lead to downtime, which in turn has a negative impact on the entire operating process. The right control system, regular maintenance, but also a clean track area and thus an undamaged warehouse floor ensure the smooth operation of the vehicles. We have made the latter our task.</p><p>Our aim was to develop a model that can be&nbsp;</p><ul><li>can be integrated into the existing transport routes</li><li>is suitable for all navigation methods and</li><li>reliably cleans the rollers.</li></ul><p>This resulted in the new xs series - a clean travelling zone specially designed for very narrow AGV rollers. On the one hand, this is important to protect vibration-sensitive freight such as microchips and, on the other hand, to ensure that the vehicles can orientate themselves without interference. Innovation for the efficient cleaning of AGVs

<p>ProfilGate® aqua is a cleaning system developed for disinfecting tyres, castors and soles. It consists of trays into which disinfectant liquid is poured. The fill level is regulated via an adjustable overflow nozzle. <h2>Scientific investigation</h2><p>The microbiological effectiveness has now also been scientifically tested and confirmed. The IBELIN laboratory was responsible for conducting and analysing the test in cooperation with the University of Bonn. The test object was a trolley with PA castors, on which the bacterial and mould contamination was measured. The selected test organisms were Escherichia coli (rod bacteria that behave analogously to Salmonella), Enterococcus facium (bacteria with high environmental resistance analogous to Listeria) and Aspergillus niger (mould fungus). The contaminated trolley was pushed over a ProfilGate® aqua field of 2 metres in length. The disinfectant liquid in the tubs had a concentration of 2%. Samples were taken before and after the crossing, which were later analysed in the laboratory. No more microbiological contamination

<p>Klöckner Pentaplast (kp) was founded in 1965 in Montabaur, Germany, and has developed into one of the world's leading companies in the plastics industry. The company now has 32 factories in 18 different countries and supplies companies in the food, consumer goods, pharmaceutical and medical industries. Customers from the pharmaceutical and food segments in particular have very high demands in terms of hygiene and cleanliness.</p><p>Among other things, a cleaning solution was sought for a hall entrance in front of the inner gate. The aim was to prevent contamination of the kp products by reducing the amount of dirt entering the production areas. The ProfilGate® st65 model, which is characterised by a high dirt volume, was chosen back in 2017. Klöckner Pentaplast mainly uses hand and pallet trucks, electric forklifts and small forklift trucks with small wheels and castors in the cleaning area. &nbsp;Accordingly, the st series was chosen, which is characterised by fine-meshed honeycomb grating and is therefore ideal for this type of industrial truck. The internal route is heavily used: approx. 240 passes per day. The field is cleaned weekly. In January 2021, the dirt was collected and weighed. 4.25 kg of dirt was found on the scales. Extrapolated to a whole year, this means that over 50 kg of dirt can be collected before it enters production.&nbsp;</p><div class="size-l">Klöckner Pentaplast is very satisfied with this:</div><div class="paragraph size-m"><i>"We continue to notice a high level of effectiveness and consider the systems to be very effective,</i><br><i>to significantly reduce the amount of dirt entering the production areas."</i></div><p>&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>Industry 4.0</strong> is "the" buzzword for those responsible for business processes of all kinds. Every company wants to get to the future and the fourth industrial revolution as quickly as possible. The desire for greater automation is leading to the increased use of <strong>automated guided vehicles</strong> (AGVs) in logistics. These bring many advantages for production. However, they also have disadvantages, such as the dirt they collect on their routes. <h2>What is an automated guided vehicle system (AGV)?</h2><p>The entire system for transporting goods with automatically controlled vehicles consists of several components. These have been defined in VDI Guideline 2510 from the Association of German Engineers. An AGV always consists of</p><ul><li>one or more driverless transport vehicles,</li><li>a control system,</li><li>technology for data transmission between the vehicles and the master computer (and between the vehicles themselves),</li><li>a sensor system for determining location and recording position,</li><li>infrastructure and peripheral equipment</li></ul><p><strong>Automated guided vehicles (AG) </strong>are, as the name suggests, operated automatically by their own drive system and do not need to be touched in order to find their way. They are means of transport, i.e. they transport loads and only move on the ground (floor-bound). A distinction is made between load-pulling AGVs (e.g. tractors &amp; underride tractors) and load-carrying AGVs. The latter can be further subdivided into AGVs with active or AGVs with passive load handling.</p><p>The master controller manages and controls the entire system. It handles administrative tasks such as order scheduling, parking processes, fleet management and route optimisation. Data transmission between the AGV and the master controller (and in some cases between the AGVs themselves) can be realised using different technologies:</p><ul><li>A communication loop in the floor,</li><li>narrowband radio,</li><li>broadband radio,</li><li>infrared.</li></ul><p><br>However, it is increasingly being criticised that all tasks are carried out by a central control system, as functionality and flexibility often suffer as a result. In a joint project between OFFIS (Institut für Informatik e.V.) and IPH (Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover), for example, an overall concept for decentralised control of AGVs was developed back in 2013.<br>There are various types of navigation to ensure that AGVs always find the right route in a production environment. The three main types are (1) guidance, (2) grid or (3) laser navigation. Navigation by GPS is also possible in the open air. The creation of the guidelines is complex and depends on the ground conditions. Unfortunately, the rapid wear and tear caused by driving over and soiling also poses a challenge with optical guidance. With inductive guidance, the AGV follows a guide wire in the ground, which can also be used to transmit energy. The biggest disadvantage is considered to be the lack of flexibility, as only the existing route exists and there is no possibility to react promptly to changes in the warehouse environment. With grid navigation, transponders, magnets or optical grids (colour contrasts) are embedded in the floor. They also form guidelines, but not continuously, but from point to point. This makes it easier to adapt the routes, as it is not necessary to create a completely new guideline, only the specifications within the grid. Although laser navigation is expensive to purchase, it offers the greatest flexibility in the event of changes in the warehouse environment. Here, reflector markers are placed at the edge of the route, which the laser scanner uses for orientation. These requirements are also set out in a guideline issued by the Association of German Engineers (VDI 2510 Sheet 3).</p>

<h2>What does an AGV do?</h2><p>AGVs control the transport of different goods in a warehouse or production environment. Depending on the requirements, they can move loads weighing just a few kilograms (e.g. vehicles for small load carriers) or loads weighing up to 50 tonnes (e.g. underride tractors, heavy-duty AGVs). Their speed varies depending on the area of application. If there is passenger transport, the specified speed is usually 1 m/s. In fully automated areas, the <strong>speed</strong> can be higher, as the risk of accidents is lower there.<br>Of course, the automation of transport routes has a number of <strong>advantages</strong>. Depending on the type, automated guided vehicles are suitable for transporting different goods. They optimise and accelerate in-house transport. As a result, production can be increased while labour costs are reduced at the same time. AGVs reduce the error rate and can be used continuously, even around the clock. They can be easily integrated into existing structures and, depending on the control system, can also be adapted more or less easily to changing conditions.<br>&nbsp;</p>

<h2>What problem is often forgotten?</h2><p>One problem that does not change with driverless industrial trucks is the entry of dirt into the warehouse or production environment through the tyres, rollers and wheels of the vehicles. By always travelling in the same lane, dirt is carried away, e.g. from logistics to the clean zones. This in turn leads to increased cleaning costs, possible contamination of products, surface soiling and, particularly in the case of AGVs, to faster wear of guidelines or grids in the floor. In addition, roller wear is particularly evident in AGV lanes, especially in bends and also in the manoeuvring area. It has fine-meshed grids for narrower castors, as well as high stability with high weights and is therefore the product for AGVs, but the castors of tugger trains, trolleys and handcarts are also reliably cleaned here. The st series is ideal for indoor use and narrow, hard castors thanks to its smooth, quiet-running grating surfaces.<br>If you need to fulfil the requirements of a hygiene concept, a sti series is also available. The plastic of the gratings makes them particularly lightweight, and they are also antibacterial and therefore even approved for use in the food industry.<br>The <strong>guidelines for AGVs</strong> can either be placed between the trays or attached to the gratings with an AGV guide rail. This rail can also be retrofitted to existing bays. This made Wolf Wurstspezialitäten one of the first companies to choose this new version of ProfilGate®. The first generation of the ProfilGate® aqua system, for example, is equipped with an internal overflow. The current version has an external drain. &nbsp;As a special requirement, the system was manufactured entirely in the higher quality V4A version (as opposed to V2A stainless steel). To ensure that absolutely no moisture remains on the rollers of the trolleys, a split field was chosen. The front section is operated with water and disinfection and the rear section is intended for dry cleaning. The advantage here was that ProfilGate® could be integrated into existing processes and room concepts as required. The Kümmersbruck site is part of the Wolf Gastro division, which produces and supplies products for the catering and hotel industry as well as butchers and snack bars. The aqua installation there is already equipped with an external drain, but this has been further developed and optimised up to the current version. There is also a slicer department there, i.e. an unclean area that has a transition to a clean area. The ProfilGate® aqua field for wet cleaning and disinfection was installed precisely in this transition. The special version in V4A was also selected here in order to fulfil the highest quality requirements.</p><p>ProfilGate® aqua installation at Wolf Wurstspezialitäten GmbH in Schmölln.</p><p>In general, the company is very satisfied with the choice of cleaning solution. <h2>Answer:</h2><p>ProfilGate® can be <strong>installed in both new and existing buildings.</strong></p><p><br>We generally recommend <strong>installing ProfilGate®</strong> cleaning bays at ground level. No additional space is required for access and exit ramps and the bay can be accessed from all sides without the risk of accidents. Another advantage is that the dirt automatically collects at the lowest point, i.e. in the ProfilGate® field. Retrofitting ProfilGate®?

<h2>ProfilGate® aqua in the meat industry</h2><p>Installing ProfilGate® means easy integration into an existing room concept, as the system consists of individual trays. The cleaning field does not interfere with or change the operating process and no training is required. In the meat industry, the clean-off zone is predominantly placed in areas that must be passed through and cannot be avoided. A strategically favourable position for the system is an aisle that leads out of the slicer department and into a clean area.</p><p>Wolf Wurstspezialitäten GmbH has already installed ProfilGate® aqua at three locations and has thus found the ideal component for its hygiene concept, as the company wants to clean and sterilise rolls at the same time. The three cleaning fields ensure that the production areas are fundamentally cleaner and easier to clean. The cleaning intervals for the lifting and smoking trolleys have also been extended since the installation. ProfilGate® aqua in the meat industry

<p>Space is valuable and you don't want to waste any. We have therefore developed the option of cleaning tyres on ramps and driveways. ProfilGate® saves space and has the further advantage that your employees cannot avoid the field. Regardless of whether they use the driveway on foot, with a small pallet truck or with a forklift truck weighing several tonnes - the system works for all running surfaces. The cleaning process runs automatically and mechanically as soon as a vehicle or person drives onto or enters the clean-off zone.&nbsp;<br>How is this possible? The pre-tensioned brush strips start to vibrate under load. Due to the offset bristles, this vibration causes the brushes to actively glide over tyres, rollers and soles and brush off the dirt. This then falls through the gratings into the trays installed underneath and collects there. The dirt is best removed regularly with a hoover or hand brush at intervals of weeks or months.</p><p>A major advantage of installing on a slope for general work safety is the reduced risk of slipping. For example, one of our customers had the problem of oil and dust from the floor getting on the soles of their employees' shoes. When they passed an inclined ramp made of tear plate, they often slipped. The ProfilGate® cleaning field in the tear plate ramp not only combated the problem, but also the cause. On the one hand, the new surface ensured greater stability on the ramp itself. Secondly, large amounts of oil and dust were removed by cleaning the brushes so that they could no longer spread unhindered throughout the entire plant.</p><p>Below you can see some installation examples</p>

<h2>How does the system work?</h2><p>ProfilGate® go is a clean-off zone that actively cleans with its special brushes. When pedestrians walk over the cleaning area, the brush strips automatically start to swing due to their weight. The bristles get deep into the shoe treads and remove dust and other dirt particles. The entire process is purely mechanical and fully automatic. <h2><strong>Where installation is particularly worthwhile</strong></h2><p>A typical area that customers often choose for ProfilGate® go is the staff entrance. Employees enter the workplace from outside and still have dirt on their shoes. However, if they take their first steps in the building on a ProfilGate® go clean-off zone, the dirt is stopped right at the entrance. Clean shoe soles without the hassle of wiping them off

<p>Kinder-Cater GmbH prepares around 4,000 meals a day. The company specialises in out-of-home catering for children and young people. It supplies several day-care centres and schools in the greater Cologne area with home-cooked meals. A solution to improve hygiene standards was sought in 2016 when the company built its own new premises.
